Marketing Art Strategies #1Create Art Work That Sells I know you thought this p0st was supposed to be about marketing your art and not creating your art but guess what. If you don’t create art that sells, you won’t be marketing anything.

So first things first, create art that that people will like. No dark paintings of your boyfriend or girlfriend. Who wants to hang that on their wall? No photos that make you feel sad. Who wants to feel those feels all the time when they walk by that photograph?

So please, please, create artwork that sells. Of course create art that compliments your personality and yet different from everybody else.

Marketing Art Strategies #2Collect a mailing list and email list. One of the best ways to market artwork is by marketing to customers who have already bought something from you. You may have heard the saying, “Your best customer is the customer who has already purchased from you. If they have purchased from you once there is a high probability that they will purchase from you again. When you are doing an art show (whether at an art festival, exhibition or at a gallery) always get your customers email and mailing addresses. You can use a small clipboard with sign-up sheets or a notebook to get all your customers information.

The reason why is that when you have created new artwork the first people you should contact are the customers who have already bought from you. The best way to contact your customers via snail-mail is with a nice sales letter asking them to buy your new artwork. The best way via email is through a newsletter. If you do this stuff you will make sales. It’s as simple as that. Sell art to those who have already bought from you.

Marketing Art Strategy #3 - Social Media As you know Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, and YouTube are the top websites visited each day. And the reason why, is because their social. It is where people get together and communicate virtually. It’s like a virtual campfire. What does this have to do with marketing your artwork, a lot. If you are not on any of these social media platforms you should be. Recently Facebook was listed as the number one site visited in a day, beating out the infamous Google. This means you need to be on Facebook marketing your artwork. How, create a Fan Page on Facebook and began marketing your work everyday.

The more you put things on Facebook and other social media platform the better. What do you need to post on these platforms? For starters, pictures. Post pictures of your new artwork, works in progress and even works that people have bought. One of the best things you can show people is artwork people have already bought from you. This is a great marketing tool.

When people see other people who have bought from you, they see that you can be trusted and people value you as an artist. Do the same with the other social media sites. Connect with people and let them know you are an artist.
