How To Set Up A Tent For An Outdoor Art Show

You would not believe how many artists who participate in an art show, don’t know how to set up a tent properly. I was one of those people. I remember setting up my first tent at an outdoor show about an hour away from where I lived and bombing on my entire set up. After I finally got the tent up I didn’t have any weights or sand bags to hold the tent down. I didn’t have any stands, easels or panels to display my artwork. What was I thinking!!!! It was awful. My prices were extremely low so I sold a lot of work but my display really said “Beginner”. I had 2×4′s hanging around the tent were I hung my artwork and I even had work displayed on the ground. The first two days of the shows I managed but by Sunday a storm can and crush my tent and destroyed several pieces of my work. I learned from that day always and I mean always be prepared.

Here is a video of setting up a tent with two people and with one person. I believe showed know how to set up a tent by yourself because your friend, spouse or lover are not always able to help you set up for a show. A lot of times you may have to set up alone.

Here are a few tips I would suggest when setting up your tent for an outdoor art show.

1. Set up the tent at home before you set up at the show. This way you will save a lot of time when preparing for the show.

2. Have all display panels, easels and other display objects set up properly and in tact.

3. Display artwork with a good amount of space in between each piece. Have your area pleasant to the eye.

4. Make sure you have all your miscellaneous things such as hooks to hang your artwork, sand bangs or weights, business cards, hammer, nails, bungee cords and etc.
