Three Reasons Why You As An Artist Should Consider Yourself As An Entrepreneur

First of all, if you are creating art for the purpose of pure enjoyment, this post is not for you. But if you are considering selling your artwork you should look at yourself as an entrepreneur. Why, well because you will have to do what every other entrepreneur in any other business has to do…sell, build relationships, and market. If you want to make sales you will have to do these three things.

SELL

First, if you want someone to purchase your work you are going to have to talk about your work, yourself, and why you create your work. You will have to learn unique selling techniques when talking to a potential customer. To make a sale you have to know how to “SELL”.

Build Relationships

Second, you will have to get people to like you. The reason why we have the friends we have is because we like them and they like us. In order for someone to buy from you a relationship has to be built with them, basically, get them to like you. No, I don’t mean you have to course them but have a littler personality and character.

Marketing

Lastly, if you want anybody to see your work to buy from you simply market it…Get your work Out There!!! If you are trying to make money from your art no one will ever know you, or it, exists if you don’t get it out there to the public. Marketing is one major key to creating sales. I save this one for last because I believe it is the most important. You may not believe it but everything you do is marketing. From where you display your work to how you present your work to how you treat your customers. You can get a lot of sales using simple marketing techniques, online and offline.

Now back to my first point, if you want to make some money with your artwork you have to look at yourself as an entrepreneur and establish yourself as a business. You can not just paint, draw, or sculpt and leave everything to chance. By applying these three components when selling your work you will be on your way. Now please, start thinking as an entrepreneur and not just an artist.

This post has helped me in a lot of ways. It is easy to look myself as just an artist and not a entrepreneur. I am glass blower,a parent of two and a mother and I find it hard to manage all at once. But I will persist and strive to be a artist that sells work and not just create work. Please do a post on being an artist, mother, and wife.LOL
