How to Overcome Fear When Selling Your Art

As a beginning artist many years ago, I did not move forward as much as I would have liked simply because I was afraid to step-out. I was afraid to submit my paintings to galleries. I was afraid to apply to art festivals and I was afraid of showing my work to friends and family.  I look back now and think of how much I lived in fear. When it came to marketing my work and putting it out there where people could see my work,  just frieghten the socks off of me.

I believe the reason why I was so afraid was that I felt my work was not good enough.  Now that I think about it, that’s what most of my artist friends struggle with. They believe that their work is not good enough. Once I recognized that it was simply fear and not my artwork I began to take major steps to move foward in my art career.  I began submitting my work to galleries, applying for art festivals and passing out business cards.  Although I still worried about getting rejected from galleries and art festivals I remained persistent and it paid off.  What I found is that even though you may fear marketing your art you still have to push forward, even if you feel your work is not that great. What some artists fail to realize is that you can improve your skills along the way.
Here are three ways to help overcome your fear when selling your art.

1. Do it afraid. Although you may feel fear when applying for art shows, submitting work to galleries, etc., Just do it anyway. The worst thing they can say is no.

2. Realize that it’s just fear. Fear is not true; it is False Evidence Appearing Real.

3. Set Goals and move towards them regardless of how you feel about the obstacles that you may face. A lot of procrastination is derived from this very thing not setting goals and making deadlines. Deadlines are a great way to push you to complete a task.

I hope this help you move foward  to overcoming some of your fears to selling your art.  I would love to hear you feedback. Please feel free to leave a comment by clicking on the comment button.

Yours Truly
